The foundation works for the Telford Central footbridge project is now well underway and on schedule.

Thanks to its latest newsletter, Telford & Wrekin Council has ensured that businesses and local residents are informed of the latest news on the footbridge development, with the work currently seeing major groundworks being completed.

The first of the two lift towers, which will provide access to the new Telford Footbridge from the station platform, is scheduled to leave the fabrication facility in North Yorkshire. Standing at 10metres high and weighing 12 tonnes, the lift towers – once shot blasted and painted – will be installed onsite later this year.

The Telford Central footbridge project is registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme which cares about appearance, the community, the environment, safety and the workforce. Roadsweepers continue to remain onsite to ensure that the nearby roads and areas are kept clear and safe for traffic and the public during the construction works.

Telford College has partnered with various organisations in a bid to tackle the growing skills shortage across the region, including Telford & Wrekin Council, Jobcentre Plus, the Department for Work & Pensions, the Construction Industry Training Board, and Balfour Beatty – to encourage potential recruits to consider a career in the construction industry.

It’s great to see that the footbridge’s development is on schedule and that once complete, will be fit-for-purpose for many more years to come. Check back here for further project updates.
